Public University Evolves Legacy Systems to Cloud-Based Infrastructure to Better Consolidate and Analyze Data
With over 90,000 students worldwide, the University is one of the largest distance-learning institutions in the nation. The university needed reliable and scalable infrastructure services to meet the growing demand of its student base and, thus, growing amounts of data. The university was seeking to retire legacy hardware and software while modernizing and optimizing their IT environment.
Utilizing a multi-phase approach, Day1 Solutions provided consulting and best-practices to migrate the University to AWS. As part of Phase 1, the Day1 Big Data Team assisted in current system readiness assessment and cloud migration strategizing, provided on-site engineering support, and training of operational and technical staff around the use and management of the AWS platform and its associated data warehouse services.
The University benefitted from a single data repository which led to the consolidation of increasing amounts of data and an overall faster ETL for its big data ecosystem. Day1 now provides ongoing AWS IaaS and account management service to the University to free up internal resources and lessen the amount of time spent managing its infrastructure.
